How do I know if I’m gay? If my friend’s gay? Is there a sign that everyone knows about?
Having a crush on another guy (or girl-on-girl crush), feeling sexually attracted, or even kissing or having a sexual experience with another guy does not necessarily mean you are gay. Most adult gay people say they’ve known they were gay as long as they can remember, and many even had a boyfriend or girlfriend of the opposite gender when they were younger. Some people, called bisexuals, are attracted to both males and females. And while people who later come out as gay feel it inside, there is no outward sign that marks one person as gay or bisexual.
Being with someone you care about and like is more important than whether they are male or female. Most people figure these things out as they experience life and different kinds of relationships. And gay and lesbian people have sex in basically the same ways as straight people. Just remember, no matter what your own values are, it is never okay to make fun of or hurt someone because they think they might be gay or lesbian or if you think they might be gay or lesbian or bisexual.
